DJ EU, Russia, Ukraine Natural Gas Talks Set For Sept 20 -- Market Talk
While the EU moved Thursday to ratchet up sanctions pressure on Moscow, the bloc announced that three-way ministerial
talks between Russia, Ukraine and the EU to settle a dispute over natural gas sales would resume on September 20 in
Berlin. The last set of talks in June made little headway, with Ukraine demanding lower gas prices from Moscow and
Russia warning Kiev it must settle its gas bills. Russia has since cut gas supplies to Ukraine, raising concerns in the
EU that its customers could suffer shortages this winter if Ukrainians siphon off Russian gas transiting through
Ukraine pipelines. EU officials hope to have the talks completed by next month. (Laurence.Norman@wsj.com)
