DJ Natural Gas Rallies on Counter-Intuitive Theory -- Market Talk
14:57 EDT - Weather forecasts for the Northeast and eastern seaboard are calling for a spate of much-above normal
temperatures through mid-month. That's normally a downbeat note for the natural-gas market, which is normally buoyed by
heating demand. But some analysts and strategists say the market appears to be counting on a surge in demand from power
plants, which can switch over to natural gas as a source fuel to generate electricity and power air conditioners to
handle an early-season heat wave. "Power generators have flipped to natural gas in a big way," says Price Futures' Phil
Flynn. Front-month Nymex futures settle at their highest level since March 18, rising 1.6% to $2.821/MMBtu.
