DJ Natural Gas Futures Rise on Weather Expectations
By Nicole Friedman
NEW YORK--Natural-gas prices gained Tuesday on expectations that hot weather would boost demand for gas-powered
electricity.
Natural gas for August delivery rose 3.2 cents, or 1.1%, to settle at $2.821 a million British thermal units on the
New York Mercantile Exchange.
Electricity use rises in the summer as more households and offices use air conditioning. Forecasts are calling for
above-average temperatures in the next six to 10 days in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions, according to MDA
Weather Services.
The weather outlook on Tuesday "promises somewhat stronger power-sector demand than a day ago," said Tim Evans,
energy futures specialist at Citigroup Inc., in a note.
However, cooler weather is expected to arrive the second week of August, which analysts say could limit the price
rally.
