DJ Natural Gas Prices Fall Ahead of Inventory Data

Natural gas prices fell Wednesday on expectations that supplies of the heating fuel shrank by a smaller-than-average
amount last week.
Natural-gas stockpiles typically fall at this time of year as cold weather increases demand for the fuel. But mild
temperatures have kept consumption subdued this year, and the weather is forecast to be warmer-than-normal in the
coming two weeks.
Analysts and traders surveyed by The Wall Street Journal expect the U.S. Energy Information Administration to report
Thursday that natural-gas supplies shrank by 63 billion cubic feet last week, less than the five-year average 65-bcf
draw for that week.
If the storage estimate is correct, inventories as of Dec. 4 totaled 3.893 trillion cubic feet, 16% above levels from
a year ago and 6.8% above the five-year average for the same week.
Futures for January delivery settled down 0.8 cent, or 0.4%, to $2.062 a million British thermal units on the New
York Mercantile Exchange, the lowest settlement since Oct. 28.
