DJ Natural Gas Rises on Hotter Weather
By Nicole Friedman
NEW YORK--Natural gas prices rose Monday on forecasts for above-normal temperatures in the next two weeks.
Hot weather boosts demand for natural gas, as households and offices run their air-conditioning units. Forecasts
released Monday showed more hot weather in the next two weeks compared with prior forecasts, according to Commodity
Weather Group LLC.
Futures for September delivery recently rose 3.1 cents, or 1.1%, to $2.829 a million British thermal units on the New
York Mercantile Exchange.
"The weather forecast...may help to keep the market a bit firmer," said Frank Clements, co-owner of Meridian Energy
Brokers Inc., in a note. "I think the market will continue to creep a bit higher."
Robust production has kept the market oversupplied in recent weeks, even as hot temperatures have increased demand.
Physical gas for next-day delivery at the Henry Hub in Louisiana last traded at $2.85/mmBtu, compared with Friday's
range of $2.785-$2.84. Cash prices at the Transco Z6 hub in New York last traded at $2.50/mmBtu, compared with Friday's
range of $1.40-$1.75.
