DJ Natural Gas Prices Erase Gains
By Nicole Friedman
NEW YORK--Natural-gas prices fell slightly Monday, erasing early gains, on concerns that mild weather would keep the
market oversupplied.
Futures for November delivery settled down 0.1 cent, or 0.04%, at $2.45 a million British thermal units on the New
York Mercantile Exchange.
Natural-gas consumption typically falls at this time of year, as few consumers use gas-powered electricity to run
air-conditioning units or buy natural gas for indoor heating. Natural-gas supplies are higher than typical for this
time of year and are expected to keep building in the coming weeks until indoor-heating demand kicks in.
"Higher storage levels, healthy domestic production and moderate demand are all weighing on prices," said Standard
Chartered in a note. "We expect the U.S. gas market to maintain a sizeable inventory overhang, keeping a firm lid on
prices in all but the most extreme of winters."
