Dow Jones - End of Day Natural Gas Commentary

DJ Natural-Gas Prices Rise on Cold-Weather Forecasts

  By Nicole Friedman

NEW YORK--Natural-gas prices rose on Monday as colder-weather forecasts lifted demand expectations.

November futures settled up 3.3 cents, or 1.3%, at $2.535 a million British thermal units on the New York Mercantile
Exchange, the highest settlement since Sept. 29.

Prices have climbed for five straight sessions as traders looked past the current surplus in the market toward
winter, when demand typically peaks.

Natural-gas consumption increases in cold weather, as residential and commercial buildings turn on indoor heating.
About half of U.S. households use natural gas as their primary heating fuel.

Forecasts released Monday show colder-than-average temperatures on the East Coast in the next six to 10 days.

"Prices could find some modest support this week due to stronger cold blasts arriving into the Midwest and Northeast,
with temperatures dropping to near or below freezing for the first time this season," said NatGasWeather.com in a note
to clients. "However, for a sustained rally, weather patterns would need to become a bit more intimidating after this
weekend's systems."
